Continuing Education Units
In preparation for the future application to the Health Professions Act, and to further enhance the practice of Therapeutic Recreation, at the Annual General Meeting in October 2001, the membership of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association voted to adopt a Continuing Education Unit Program for the association.
There are a variety of methods in which to accrue CEUs. Each registered professional member is required to complete 15 continuing education units (CEUs) in each membership year.
Reporting CEUs
- CEUs are to be collected during the current membership year
(May 1 -
April 30)
- The completed CEU Reporting Form is to be submitted with membership renewals for the
following membership year (due May 1 of each year).
- Failure to acquire 15 CEUs eliminates the option to renew professional membership.
We recognize that there are often reasons why members would not be able to
acquire the required CEUs.
CEU Exemption
- Members can apply to the board of directors to waive CEU requirements for medical leave, parental leave or for other extenuating circumstances.
- Please complete the CEU Exemption Form if you have been unable to complete the required yearly CEUs.
- Members will have the option of exempting CEUs for one membership year upon written request to the provincial board.
- Documentation must be provided supporting your request.
Carry Foward Extra CEUs
- Members who acquire more than the required 15 CEUs for a membership year can
elect to carry forward a maximum of 7 CEUs for the following CEU year.
