Board Nominations
Two positions will come up for nomination this year: President and Education Liaison. The incument president, Kari Medd, has agreed to let her name stand for an additional two years. If you, or someone you know, is interested in either of these positions, please fill out the Board Nominations Document located in the members' only section under "Forms and Policies" and send it in to the ATRA office. Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the AGM, as per ATRA's policy. Deadline for nominations is September 7, 2012.

ATRA Professional Awards
Please consider nominating a colleague or deserving individual for one of ATRA's Professional Awards. The Awards Nomination package is located in the members' only section, under "Forms & Policies". Each winner receives a free one year ATRA membership and, in addition, all nominators are put in a draw for a free ATRA membership. Awards are given at the Annual Awards Luncheon, to be held this year on Friday, October 26.

What is ATRA?

ATRA is an association founded in September 1985, representing over 400 professionals working in the field of Therapeutic Recreation in Alberta

What is Therapeutic Recreation?

Therapeutic Recreation/Recreation Therapy is a health profession which acknowledges the significance of leisure and recreation as integral components of optimal health and well-being of individuals with illnesses and disabling conditions.

Recreation Therapists:

Work with individuals with physical, mental, emotional, cognitive or social limitations that impact their ability, attitude and motivation to engage freely in leisure and to maintain a healthy and balanced leisure lifestyle.
Work collaboratively within health service teams which may include physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, nutritionists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech language pathologists and social workers.
Work in settings throughout the continuum of health care including acute care, rehabilitation, community, assisted living, day programs, long term care and private business.
Follow established Standards of Practice including assessment, intervention/care planning, program development and delivery, documentation, evaluation, research, professional development and community practice.
