Your official transcript(s) must list the minimum required number of TR (3), general (3) and supporting courses (6).

There are a variety of universities and colleges which offer coursework in Therapeutic Recreation in Alberta and throughout Canada. Many offer these courses with a distance learning option. Please see the ‘Student’ section for a comprehensive list of post-secondary options.

As part of moving recreation therapy toward regulation under the Health Professions Act, ATRA has developed a bridging process for those individuals currently employed in the field but whose past education curriculum does not meet current ATRA registration criteria. The ATRA Membership Review Committee will apply the bridging process on an individual basis after receiving the completed application and course transcripts.

Applicants for Student Membership must be taking one or more courses towards the completion of a diploma, post-graduate certificate, bachelors/masters/doctorate degree whose title contains Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation & Leisure Studies.
